2020 has been an immensely eventful year. Starting with a high stakes standoff between the US and Iran, it eventually came to be defined by the COVID-19 outbreak, which after originating in central China in late 2019, spread to the entire world. Our lives have been upended by this pandemic, the largest in over 100 years - lockdowns have been imposed, schools were shuttered, and our world has had to rapidly adapt to this new reality. Most of the articles in our issue were written well before the outbreak began, discussing consequential issues ranging from wildfires in Australia to the upcoming U.S. presidential attention. We hope that the issue will serve as a break from the ongoing situation, and remind us of the many other important choices we face during this historical crossroads.
